Phong Tran
BMEN Class of '24
Howdy! My name is Phong Tran, and I am a senior in Biomedical Engineering with Computer Science minor. I enjoy complex projects that require heavy research, lab work, and prototyping. I am planning to pursue ph.D. in biomedical engineering before heading to the industry. Outside class, I do ballroom dancing and ice & roller skating.
Salem Smith
MSEN Class of '23
Howdy! My name is Salem Smith, a Materials Science major with a Polymer Specialty Certificate in the class of '23. My major isn't in the system (we're new!) but it's been described as a cross between physics, chemistry, chemical and mechanical engineering.
At A&M, I am active in leadership for oSTEM (Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) as well as FREE Aggies (Feminists for Reproductive Equity and Education). I am also a member of WIMS (Women in Materials Science), and research with the Sukhishvili Group here at A&M. My research primarily focuses on Antioxidant Layer-by-Layer polymer films.
I am currently preparing to apply to graduate school and hopefully pursue a PhD in Materials Science or Polymer Science! I want to work in a national lab or pursue teaching post-doctoral graduation.
In my free time, I play tuba, theremin, and harp, and also love reading (fantasy and sci-fi), sewing, thrifting/fashion design, and foraging/going on hikes! I also love going to concerts, and I'm a big fan of goth music, prog rock, and metal.
